I do not know if it is the intellectual climate of this City and Province or that of the Country or even world as a whole there just does not seem to be the respect for philosophers that we used to have. Maybe its because we all think now, not just those individuals of ability and station. Making the act of thought beyond the day to day drugery of society something anyone can do diluting the impact of genius in the modern age. Even look at this writing I am doing now, I am intelligent but I have never considered my lazy absorbtion of information something deserving of a term like Genius, like all intellectuals I am one part regurgitation one part actual idea and two parts bullshit. I find it hillarious that my earlier university essays are more coherent than those I write now because I have been taught so well to dodge around the point of any given thing. So much of what academia pushes out could be taken down to a solid sentence or paragraph with footnotes  for proofs, but instead we are taught to create gigantice intellectual monstrosities in order to demonstrate our ability to understand a given point. That last was lifted from Russell perhaps not directly but what I have read is influencing how I say it and what I think does that make this plagerism? I am not wholely sure but I would think not, an idea cannot be owned by one person, a thing or an idea for a thing certianly but the idea that, the Pre-Mycenean Greeks were the people who are depicted attacking Troy in the Illiad cannot, but it seems to me that many want that to be the way of things locking us out of the ability to look at others work and go “Yeah that was good but if I change this right here look at THAT”.

I worry we are trapping ourselves into intellectual stagnation, I look at my life and I compare it to those thinkers and individuals of the past and wonder how I could even aspire to their levels. Living moments in the present like one such as Hunter S Thompson is one thing, but as he himself proves that path leads to ones own destruction. One habit of life of Russell that he shares in one of his papers is that of reading History with his spouse and discussing it. I may lack the spouse but I do think that I need to stop letting myself get into an intellectual funk, I NEED to learn, and with how Education has conspired to only state the obvious maybe that is what I need to change in my life.  Sides I like writing papers and thinking, that will be the best part of teaching, is learning more and more about everything as one teaches, Social Studies is far to broad to know everything, although I plan to make a go of it.

Huh barely talked of the doings, suffice it to say I had a good time, and maybe I will write of it later.

Society tells us that we have to get ahead, that we must own land, a car and so many other stupid things. Things we cannot make anymore, things we could not afford unless we have a man or woman living in another country working for a slave wage living in a hut. I am as guilty of that sort of consumerism as anyone else. I have made small stands, I do not shop at wallmart I try to reuse things, I fix cars as a hobby and sometimes as my job. I do my best as I can now in our society saturated in this to not be part of the problem. Even then I am, as to have what little I have I cannot but things I am sure of I cannot always know that people do not suffer so I can have cheap socks. No man or woman should suffer hardship working in conditions we made illegal in this nation fifty years ago so when you buy a T-shirt with whatever nonsense you decide yours must have upon it you can save yourself an additional five dollars.

We cannot even get things like that to stop here, even in the city that I live it happens, but we somehow think we can solve things elsewhere with legislation, mandates and “Rights”. We have to stop the process we have to stop demanding everything now but for a dollar less. We need to pay a fair price so a man or woman can make a fair wage.

But we are too trapped on the monster now. I once read that ruling the western Roman Empire near the end was like riding a mad bull. You were to busy trying to stay on to do anything else. So it is today with our leaders, and we the people, the bull. Are to busy worrying about where we will get the money to have our next vacation, our next TV to be thankful we do not live in a shack, making T-Shirts working everyday just to not starve as bad as the neighbours.

We are so far from the means of the production of anything now, people are more worried about the fate of a Dolphin or a Bear than a man or woman. Until the inequality of humanity ends, I think we as a race have a larger priority than worrying about the fate of an animal. Sentient life first, once we solve that the inequities to animals will be easy to fix as no man will need to kill them to survive as they do now.

I myself link door to door evangilization with cult activity, everyone is going to find their own way to god. Or they are not and that is their decision and preying on those people who are lost and converting them to your own beleifs while tacticly avoiding the short comings of your faith is horseshit. I was Baptised Catholic and I STILL had to do a FULL Year of Confirmation classes in order to get my confirmation. Compare that to some Protestant sects that let you become ordained over the internet, those are almost the worst as they essentially illustrate that a holy man is nothing. No sacrifice no effort, fill out a form pay some money and go marry some motherfuckers.

I know I have some odd opinions like I think Female preists are a good Idea but I was raised with no gender bias at all and I honestly belive a woman can do anything a man can do. There are of course some physical exceptions but there are women I have known who could do anything a man could do and beat some dudes I have known half to death with little effort. So I seem the reformer right? But then we turn to the prospect of Preists having families, and I believe the church has done the right thing. There is nothing I respect less than a man who claims to be of the cloth and has a family. The Temporal and Faith realms are not linked and no man can stand between both and be all he could, either distracted from God by life or neglecting his family for God. Thats why the Protestants piss me off, Pastors have made no sacrifice beyond time to preach, Preists of the Catholic Church have given up Family, Love Beyond God and Sex three things I could never surrender, any man can be a pastor but only a holy man (Or on occasion a man with something broken in his head) can take on the path of Catholic Priesthood to the end. I have an Aquaintance on that road and I can honestly say that regardless of my attempts to argue faith with him I have nothing but respect and admiration for that path he follows. He shows me how good of a man one can be in the name of God, and although it is not something I can do I experience profound envy of his devotion to faith and to God Allmighty.

I am going to try to rant, we shall see how successful I actually am, my anger goes elsewhere as does my fear but this is a venue to drain both obliquely.

I have begun my studies in education and I am appalled by how easy things are, how low the bar is set is it any wonder they seek people with additional qualifications for administration, this is not to belittle those who have come before such as the John but rather to rant at the difference in the effort needed between Arts and Ed, I had to work my ass off to do well in Classics. Long papers hard work and reading of a scale shocking to me in retrospect. Here I have some short readings that talk about FEELINGS I have to write about the place Jesus has in my life as a teacher.

Yeah I am a little disenheartend, this is the path I have chosen for my life and I will do it.

3 Toyotas in a row today reminded me why I dreaded working across from the damn Sun Toyota, I am way to close to the belly of the beast.

This is not something I consider bad and if not for the fear mongering that is going into much of the advertising and other methods of outlay I would even agree but for several factors:

1. No nation not in the 1st world even gives a shit at all and THE big international polluter (USA)as well as home of the companies that pollute in other nations is out

2. The current pollution standards are very very high and it can be clearly seen that tailpipe emmissions are not the problem in this counrtry

3. The nations not participating are merely increasing their consumption to match what is not being used by north america, have you heard of China, they all want cars and individually I am told their average auto makes more polution than a 60′s US made car.

4. Due to the capitalist system those things that pollute most will tend to be done in nations whose standards are the lowest.

To use Denise’s line the world is an apartment building and we are keeping our floor clean, but the Russians have started a fire on the European floor and the Asian and Africa Floors are worse, we should not be worrying about our standards which are already high we should be working on making at least the standards from the 80′s the INTERNATIONAL standard. Of course that would take a UN with teeth which is not on the Russian and US agenda meaning it is not gonna happen.

We are not the problem and if I hear one more fucker trying to tell me to use a Prius a car with an engine that cannot get to operating (Hence least polluting) temprature in winter in this country I am gonna kick their ass.

This comes back to a debate I had last year with some LJ people about the use of electric trolley’s in Edmonton, Canada is not Vancouver or California this place is the largest population this far north on earth and many of the things we do here to live make no sense elsewhere but are part of how this city is. The Cold breaks trolley lines making the system no matter how nice for green sensibilities useless, not to mention this city is wholey Coal fired as far as power and I will tell you the coal burned to run a bus on Power is way more polluting than a bus is on Desiel.

I perfer extremism in opinion, my dream government is a Right Wing Minority with a Left Wing Opposition with the swing being held by various area or special interest parties in Canada this would be the Bloc. The problem I have here in canada is the Liberal Party of Canada, by representing the center they really stand for absolutly nothing at all. They do not proffess an ideology or ideal they seek to win at all costs even their ideals. They sit in the center rolling back and forth towards whatever ideology or ideal they think will win at the time. This to me is the problem as its my feeling that ideology is key by having the opposite forces of the political spectrum at odds as occurs so often in european parlementary systems creates a balance that best serves people on both sides. Spilting the difference and serving the Nation best. An NDP minority, Conservative, it does not matter who is in charge by seperating the ideals at both ends we have legislation that is equitable for all.

Instead we have the Liberal party dividing the vote that could create a situation of actual fairness.

I get really really fucking mad at some of the people I meet from Ontario, I don’t want to make genrealizations but the way that some people who hail from that neck of the woods feel the Liberals are the key to our nations survival. I know the history of our nation, Liberals placed us underneath america, They rape those provinces who don’t support them, they build power by rewarding those who show them the most loyalty, although they were founded to push for change they have become the paletable of entropy maiming our nation economically, dividing our people socially and making so many people feel disafected with their style of federal rule that their are seperatist parties sitting in our legislature as we speak. They have divided Canada and left us weak they have turned us from one of the powers who helped end WWII into an international nice guy laughingstock. We are no longer respected and we are so far from the halls of power that in many ways we are a step better than Mexico if only because we started better off in the first place.

The Liberals controled the reigns of power of this nation for the majority of this last century and I see our nation not a proud power but a fucked and emptied whore brought down by a party concerned more with political expedience than any real ideal.

Thats why I hate the Liberals

Thats why I would RATHER ANYONE ELSE IN CONTROL OF MY NATION NDP, BLOC, hell even the GREENS who are crazy as bedbugs, I voted Commie for gawds sakes. I will admit freely I normally fall in the conservative path, having more to do with strong stands against crime than anything else but if you can find me a party who truly represents the balance I seek without being that pack of sycophantic money seeking fucks in the Liberal party I will go door to door for them.

I want Canada to stand up look around and lead the way to a better world, not grasp around at the corners of international affairs deluding ourselves about our importance because the party in power for so long has lied to us about our place.
