Back to the hated Buick

Friday, March 6th, 2009

Happily off to see a young lady last saturday I ventured forth in the somewhat operational Daytona to go hangout and watch a movie. Going up Connors Hill (I think its Connors Hill) I blew a tire and it of course shredded like my ability to get ahead financially. Rip tear and gone like nothing ever was. I got over Ty was nearby and we got down to the work of tire change. Things continued to go south as I placed the Jack underneath the car the jack broke into several unrelated peices beyond my ability to restore in the middle of a winter night on the side of the road. The father was contacted and a request for the new low profile floor jack was made and my father being a solid bloke it arrived quickly to end my contrition. Car up after some trouble and the spare slipped right on like a glove. Tools away and my assistance departing back to their lives I figured my ordeal complete. A block later the fates showed me again, how like Job any man can be. The spare blew up and shredded like the tire before it. Pulled over on a side road by a church my Father arrived promptly and offered me the use of his Buick until this new bout of “my car hates me” subsides. I have taken him up on this and am once more trapped in the hated womb of a General Motors product.

The Daytona has been retrieved using a tire bought at the scrap that although too small has proven adequate for the purpose of absconding the Daytona from the location of the tire failure to my parents house. Best of all I was knocked out of the performance of said act by an onset of a Bronchitis that I am battling to this day and although it has knocked me from my school activities I have managed work more due to the lack of work to do at work than any actual claim to health.

I would go on more but the emo hides within me tonight so just an update on one exciting aspect of my lifes attempt to fuck me to death.

The Red Fun is Back

The Daytona has returned from her Hiatus due to a broken thermostat bolt and for the record I now encourage people to change the Thermostat more than they are so the seizure of the Bolts is less common.

A thousand Kudos to Dave on the soldering magic on the Light Switch as I once more can signal a left turn and have a light actually work, oddly the switch that did not work in the car seems to have nothing wrong with it at all, the solders swithces and other components all seem to be fine. I will describe it as vexing and move on.

Hillariously the 3.0L V6 is so worn it can be turned over by hand easily meaning my rings are pretty much fucked, this of course is not a suprise but it does move “Operation New Engine” up a notch in the list as it is clear that the problems in her operation will only be solved with the introduction of a rebuilt engine. Shave the heads a little and do some port polish head work and she will be running at near 200hp at the wheel which may not sound like alot but is actually quite substantial with a car as small and light as the Daytona. Curb weight under 3000lbs even with my big old ass in it makes that a great amount of power.

First I wait for the rest of my T4′s then with the money I buy and begin the rebuild of the new engine, hopefully I can have a rebuilt motor ready to go in by the end of school then its a summer of fun times as damn near everything else on the Daytona has already been replaced by yours truly as part of the weekly restoration attempt. Hell soon I will be far enough ahead that I can tackle the Rocker rust and find the damn short in the harness for the headlight doors. With those things done a repaired Drivers door skin and some new hinges for the doors and she is ready for PAINT restoring the whole car to a hot as hell red hue.

Then tires and suspension become important as well as the aquisition of new performance parts for the car (Supercharger anyone?) to make her even more perfect. Bwhahahahah!!

So it is almost complete

Its been a weird weekend for me with the failure of not just my own car but my fathers as well.

The Daytona’s breakdown was all my fault as in my attempt to replace the thermostat so the damn thing would heat up in this weather one of the two Bolts Snapped off, making for the fun of me trying to use and extractor tool, which failed of course as the drilled hole is just off. After the fun of scavaging a self tapping screw to hold down the broken side and reassembling the whole thing and taking the car from work to the Park so my Dad could drill out the broken nut and retap it. As a loaner he gave me his Buick so I could return the next day and help. The battery froze in the cold (It is permanently wrecked) so now I am trapped at home in this cold with a broken car in the park and another here. Suffice it to say its been great fucking times on the automotive front. Don’t get me wrong I understand that when you pay $200.00 for a car you will be inconvenienced on occasion and largely the car has been great but now is not a great time with work and exams all around plus the -30 or better temperatures making it impossible for me to even move about.

Kind of a piss off

As well I may have found a new car, a Toyota Celica I am not sure of the eventual price and the like but I am sure its nothing I want to keep and finally my “Little Plan” to flip a car to help get ahead is coming together. Mostly due to there being no way in hell I would want to keep it. Its like money in the bank.

Now if only the Daytona ran better <Sigh>
